Qualified Counsellor, PGDip Counselling, MBACP

My training

There are many types of counselling.

I gained my post-graduate counselling diploma at Edinburgh University. This was a course that qualified me to work as a counsellor using both psychodynamic and person-centred approaches.

I have a Masters in the Psychology of Mental Health also from Edinburgh University.  This does not make me a psychologist but it gives me a better understanding of the mental health issues we can all face.

I work with adults through my private practice and within the voluntary sector, providing a safe and non-judgemental space to explore issues that may be causing distress or frustration. Issues that people have brought to their sessions with me include: experiencing anxiety and depression, wanting to address traumatic events that have happened to them, struggling with relationships, and feeling trapped or paralysed in their current situations. What brings you to counselling will be unique to you and we will explore it together.

I am a registered member of the BACP (494128).

I am also a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (480958).

How I work

As a result of my training, I will use both psychodynamic and person-centred approaches to counselling in our work together. This means that I will work with you in the belief :

  • that you are the expert on yourself and that - given the right conditions - you will find the answers you need already within you. These conditions include a safe place to explore your experiences free of judgement.

  • that some of the ways you are feeling or relating to others just now are shaped and influenced by experiences you have had in the past -and that understanding this better can bring about changes in the present.

  • that one path to change lies within the therapeutic relationship we will create as we collaborate on the issues you bring and goals you have.
